Mission and Functions

MISSION AND FUNCTIONS OF THE DIRECTORATE OF PHYSICAL PLANNING AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT

The Directorate of Physical Planning and Project Management is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for:

(i) All preliminary works on new projects, including siting, surveying of sites and supervision of the University Master/Plan implementation and updating.

(ii)Providing briefs on all new projects after liaising with User Departments.

(iii)Coordinating the activities of all Consultants on University projects.

(iv)Liaising with the National Universities Commission on all University projects submissions and budgets and ensuring that all designs submitted by Consultants meet the University's standards and the National Universities Commission minimum requirements.

(v) Arranging to have al designs produced by Consultants submitted in stages to appropriate University Committees and liaising with User Departments to ensure that the final designs conform to original briefs and satisfy Users' requirements.

(vi)Convening all meetings with Consultants and Users in connection with the planning for new projects and presiding over such meetings.

(vii)Scrutinizing all tender documents and ascertaining that they conform to. University and professional standards.

(viii) Supervision of all on-going projects and preparation of progress reports.

(ix)Certifying for payment all invoices and certificates submitted by Consultants and Contractors on projects.

(x) Organizing for the installation of services, furnishing and equipment of new projects.

(xi)Act as the University's main professional adviser on all project activities including Planning, Siting, Estimates, Drawings/Designs, Construction scheduling, Supervision and Commissioning.

(xii)Managing all aspects of University projects from design and/or tendering stage to completion, commissioning and handing over to the University.

(xiii)Carrying out designs for minor projects.

(xiv) Carrying out any other duties assigned by the Vice-Chancellor from time to time

(ix)Certifying for payment all invoices and certificates submitted by Consultants and Contractors on projects.
