
Town planning section
The function of the planning section;
- Faithful Supervision of the Master Plan and strict adherence to its implementation in collaboration with other professionals in ensuring that all campus developments comply with Master Plan objectives and provisions.
- Siting/Planning of new projects, surveys of roads and building sites, establishment of benchmarks, etc. and analysis.
- Determination of University and related property boundaries and investigating all encroachments.
- Auditing of spaces and infrastructure and their levels of utilization.
- Checking the impact of a proposal/project on the environment.
- Updating the F.T.E. data in consultation with the Academic Planning Unit.
- Studies/Research on the University and Environs’ Physical Development.
- Participating in the landscaping of the campus and other housing estates.
- Providing data on staff students population (by type); Demarcation of subterranean infrastructure with a view to preventing damage to them, for example, sewage lines, water pipelines, underground cables, etc. in liaison with the Maintenance Division.
- Provide timely, effective and efficient development control measures.
- Other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Director of Physical Planning.
In addition to the statutory functions of the planning section, it has also evolved some environmental management/ control exercise amongst are:-
- Monitoring and developmental control
- Illegal parking of cars at unwanted locations on campus
- Unwanted sales points/ Hawking on campus
- Demolition of illegal structures on campus
- Stop work order on unapproved structural developments on campus
- Enforcement of 5metres setback on campus and 10metres on Ajibode University Extension

Signage at the University of Ibadan before Advent of the PPU and Now
This worrisome problem has largely contributed to the insalubrious look of the campus. The arrival of the Physical Planning Unit (PPU) has helped the University to redeem the campus environment from this unwholesome situation.

This model signage has beautified the various junctions where they have been implemented and by extension, the beauty of the entire campus was enhanced. Above all, it has improved road user’s visibility, security and safety. The eleven locations where these new-look signages were newly erected are: Oduduwa lander Junction; Oduduwa Obong Junction; Central Administration Junction; Catholic Church Roundabout; Odeziaku / Amina way Junction (Beside senior staff club); Farm / Atiba roads Junction along Ajibode road; Chad / Benue road Junction (Beside Faculty of Education); Niger / Appleton road Junction; Niger road / Manuwa drive Junction; Appleton road / Technology drive Junction.

Sanitation and Environmental Cleanliness
The environmental sanitation of the University Campus became a prime duty of the Physical Planning Unit since May, 2012 when the Vice-Chancellor, Professor I.F Adewole, approved the merger of the Estate Section of the University with the PPU, thereafter, responsible for the delineating the Campus into manageable Zones and determined the scope of work and cost implications for each Zone. Also, the Unit has been responsible for the supervision of the cleaning services since the beginning of the 2013/2014 cleaning season.
THE UNIVERSITY GREEN
In addition to these, the PPU initiated some beautification projects in 2011 and are completely executed by the University through the kind approval of the Head of the PPU, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adewole. These are the beautification of the Atiba Road (Second Gate) up to the Cooperative Building junction, the Sultan Bello Hall junction, the back of the Establishment Division of the Registry, the Student Affairs and the PPU Areas, the old NISER Car Park and the Vice-Chancellors Lodge. Indeed, the Vice Chancellor, Prof I.F. Adewole, commissioned this park as soon as it was completed and before its renewed use. All these are done in accordance with development control standards and regulations.

The work of the Estate arm of the Unit is one of the most critical and will revolve around the development and maintenance of the University Properties (superstructures), development and maintenance of parks, gardens and grounds and the maintenance of the University Sanitation facilities. Accordingly, the Estate Section of the Unit shall be responsible for:
- ALL landed properties and real estate belonging to the University or on lease to it, take custody of the relevant documents and digitize same for proper development and monitoring.
- Maintenance of University Buildings (Estate Development).
- Housing Allocation and Environmental Data Base providing data base for
- University’s Buildings and Grounds (Allocation of Staff Houses-Senior and Junior; Development and Maintenance of data base for same).
- Maintenance of Hedges, Lawns and Ornamental Trees (Horticulture) and Monitoring and Supervision of such services.
- Campus Tree Management
- Environmental Sanitation (Maintenance of University Sanitation Facilities such as: Refuse Collection and Waste Management; Traffic control; Fumigations’ Control of Stray animals; Reporting Road and Water damages).
- Management of the mini-markets and provision of new ones (if need be).
- Regularly watching over the estates and properties of the University.
- Undertaking all other assignments that may be allocated to the unit by the Director of Physical Planning.
